Department History

During the 1989/90 Session, Akpabuyo (about 25 kilometres from the University of Calabar) in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State was selected for Socio-Economic study by Year IV students of the Faculty of Agriculture. With the acquisition of Okuku Campus by the University of Calabar, the department began to run its practical programmes on socio-economic and farming systems in Yala Local Government Area, until recently when the campus was handed over to the Cross River State University of Technology, Calabar.

The practical year programmes now are being run from the Faculty's farms and the surrounding farms in Calabar Municipality and Calabar South Local Government Areas of Cross River State. Also the Akpabuyo site was acquired for the practical programmes.
